Our Academic Pillars

Faith

Education at LAMS brings faith to the forefront by applying foundational Christian beliefs to its educational mission. LAMS encourages its elementary and middle school students to interpret experience through the truth of God’s Word.

Family

LAMS believes parents hold primary responsibility for shaping the lives of children. But education—and what happens in school each day—has a powerful influence, too. It can either support parental efforts or undermine them. By reinforcing values taught at home, the school becomes a partner with parents in their mission. LAMS also invites the parents, its patrons, to help define and advance Lititz Area Mennonite School's educational objectives. Patron involvement enriches LAMS and strengthens the three-fold cord.

Foundations

Understanding that Christianity has many expressions, LAMS seeks to uphold certain foundational beliefs. These Core Values guide the faculty, administration, and Board in carrying out LAMS’ educational mission.

Whole Child Approach

Educating a student to live and work in the 21st century and beyond is no longer just about reading, writing, and arithmetic. Students need to learn to problem solve, think critically and creatively, and communicate their ideas to others. This approach to learning encompasses Lititz Area Mennonite School’s mission of educating to meet the needs of the whole child.

Educating the whole child means we are not only stretching students’ minds, but we are teaming with home and church to guide their spirits and grow their bodies in as many areas as we can. First Thessalonians 4:23-24 as well as Hebrews 4:12 are both examples of how God has created us with mind, body, and spirit. This can be seen in many ways throughout the school.

Teachers use a variety of teaching methods that allow students to grow in their areas of strength and stretch them to try new things.  These various activities help the students develop their strengths, grow in their weaknesses, and most importantly nurture mind, body, and spirit.

Bible

Devotions and Bible lessons feed their spirits daily at LAMS. All subject areas are taught from a Biblical Worldview.

Music

Students attend music class in kindergarten through eighth grade, learning to worship God with their voices and instruments.

Art

Creative thinking happens in the classroom as well as during their art class.

Library

The love of reading and lifelong learning is reinforced in library.

Physical Education

Physical education is also mandatory in kindergarten through eighth grade, where students learn healthy habits of the mind and body.

Tech Education

Preparing students for purposeful Christian living in a digital world happens in the regular classroom as well as weekly tech class.

Social & Creative Play

Social interactions and creative play are also still a part of our educational plan as elementary students go outside twice a day for recess.

Spiritual Life

The Bible puts it this way: What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul? Character is important. The success you desire for your children has faith and spiritual growth at the core.

LAMS regards the spiritual life of each student as critically important. Through Bible instruction, Christian discipline, chapel services and a moment-by-moment integration of faith and learning, students are taught what it means to live a life of obedience to Jesus Christ. Biblical principles and conformity to Christ’s teaching form the standard for all school experiences.

  •     Weekly chapels feature parents, local pastors and special ministries.
  •     Daily devotions begin the day in each classroom and homeroom.
  •     Bible instruction is integrated into each class. Journeys with God is part of LAMS’ ongoing program.
  •     Faculty and administration gather every week for times of prayer.
