Whole Child - Art

Art - Creative thinking happens in the classroom as well as during their art class.

Art Education

We worship an awesome God who has given us each unique gifts and talents to use creatively for His glory.  Our art teacher strives to help the students discover and explore their sense of creativity and use it to give thanks and praise to Him through their artwork.

In order to create a successful work of art that is aesthetically pleasing, the artist, whether knowingly or unknowingly, uses a variety of elements and principles.  During our art classes, we identify and explore these fourteen elements and principles.  They are as follows:

  • Elements of Art:  line, shape, form, color, value, texture, space
  • Principles of Art:  balance, movement, rhythm, contrast, emphasis, pattern, unity

Along with exploring elements and principles of art, various artists are studied who have been influential in the art world.  These include Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, Monet, Cezanne, Cassatt, Catlin, Homer, as well as many others.
